The Back 40
Opened in 2011 The Back 40 is a fantastic facility located on the outer reaches of Ramona, CA. It is a large home with 6 private bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The house literally sits in the middle of a 40 acre parcel in the high desert country outside of San Diego.
We chose this location for several reasons. We love having all of this space because it allows our guys to ride their bikes, play and explore as they see fit. Our guys can also camp and build forts without ever having to leave home. Our remote location has provided several residents the opportunity to be as loud as like, which can be very therapeutic. Because sometime you just want to laugh at the top of your lungs because that is how the spirit moves you.
We have a few pets. Quiver, our Chihuahua, lives in the house and has since he was a puppy. He loves the residents as much as they love him. Gitmo is our pot-bellied pig. He helps our residents learn and understand responsibility while providing for his daily needs and care. In return, he helps our residents by eating all the vegetables and other food they decide they don’t really want. We also have fish that live in our pond, with its cascading waterfall, but they are mostly self sufficient.
In the future we hope to expand the opportunities for our residents by adding a garden and an orchard where they can get their hands dirty and help grow some of their own food. We are also hoping to add a few more animals like goats and maybe a few turtles.
